Dwayne Wade Testifies in Child Custody Hearing

On Behalf of | Oct 20, 2010 | Firm News

Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat is currently in a child custody dispute with his former wife Siohvaughn Wade for their 8-year-old and 3-year-old boys. Last Friday, Wade was on the stand for an entire day and spent six hours on the witness stand on Monday. The child custody hearing will continue today.

While on the stand, Wade expressed that his relationship with his former wife has been difficult. Wade claimed that despite their agreements, Siohvaughn would not let him see his children regularly. He described one instance where Siohvaughn and the children failed to show up for a scheduled visitation. He said he immediately thought the worst because he did not have any knowledge of where his children were. Describing the situation further Dwayne Wade said, “I thought she took them away and hurt herself and possibly them.”

The attorney for Siohvaughn Wade explained the missed visitation by saying one of the boys had gotten sick at school with headaches and was taken to a hospital. Wade was not informed of the situation until the following day. Wade filed his custody petition in July and since that time has had regular visitations and contact with his two sons.

During the testimony Wade affirmed he would schedule equitable visitation rights for his former wife and he promised to be a committed parent if awarded custody of his two sons. The attorney assigned to represent the children’s interest in the proceeding recommended to the court in September that Wade should be awarded custody of the boys. Currently, the two boys live with their mother even though Wade was given physical possession of the children in June.
