Domestic violence arrest prompts team to release Chad Johnson

On Behalf of | Aug 14, 2012 | Firm News

Dolphins player Chad Johnson has had an eventful few days. First he was arrested for a domestic incident with his wife. On Sunday he was released by the team, presumably in a move related to his arrest. The Dolphins announced the termination of his contract on the team’s website, but did not supply a reason for his release.

The longtime NFL wide receiver married a cast member of the reality show “Basketball Wives” on July 4, but it appears that their marriage has been rocky. The couple apparently got into a heated argument over the weekend that led to domestic violence.

According to media reports, Johnson’s wife had returned from grocery shopping when he noticed a charge on the receipt for a box of condoms. Johnson allegedly became upset and grabbed his wife, then butted her on the forehead. The move apparently left her with a three-inch laceration.

When Johnson kept yelling, his wife became frightened and went to a neighbor’s house, which is where she ultimately talked to police about what happened. Authorities later arrested Johnson at his home. He was taken to jail, where he posted bond the same day. He admitted there had been an argument but told police officers that his wife head-butted him, not the other way around.

The couple had been planning to star in a reality show detailing their marriage on the VH1 network. Johnson has starred on reality television before, including a reality dating show.
