In a previous post, we discussed the ongoing divorce issues that have arisen during the divorce between Deion Sanders and his ex-wife.
That post coincided with a child support award that a Texas court ordered back in May. According to the terms of the child support award, Sanders was ordered to pay his ex-wife more than $10,000 each month for the care and raising of their four children.
Now more recently, Sanders is appealing the child support award to the Texas Supreme Court. Sanders argues that the amount is simply too much based on the fact that it is more than six times what is required under Texas law.
On the other hand, his wife claims that the support order in place is necessary to maintain the lifestyle that their children have become accustomed to. She points to the high-asset nature of their divorce, and argues that her ex-husband’s net-worth is somewhere in the range of $250 million.
So what will the $10,000 per month child support award pay for? Among the most expensive items on that list include $2,000 per month for a special diet, $900 per month for uniforms and shoes for sports activities, $500 per month for cell phones and $450 for haircuts and hair treatments. Sander’s ex-wife has presented these expenses in legal documents to the court in order to prove the financial need behind these child support payments.
If Sanders is unsuccessful in his appeal, then the child support issues may again be revisited after three years have lapsed, or if a substantial change of circumstances occurs.
