The father of a 5-year-old girl who has been missing since June 2010 has been reunited with his daughter after months of searching. The young girl went missing when the girl was abducted by her mother and fled to Germany in violation of a child custody agreement. The 5-year-old was located in Germany by a joint investigation that involved international authorities and police officials from the United States.
The father of the 5-year-old girl had just returned from Germany where he had made an unsuccessful attempt at finding his daughter. The empty-handed return forced the father into negative place and he felt that "all hope was lost," in the search for his daughter. One week later the young girl was found in Germany by Interpol agents and was taken into protective custody. Upon hearing the news, the father did not think seeing his daughter again was possible.
The young girl was found by an Interpol informant who met the mother and daughter in Germany. The informant believed the encounter did not feel right when he heard different stories about the father from the mother and daughter. The informant conducted further research and discovered the mother was in hiding and contacted the father.
The 43-year-old mother absconded with the little girl after a parental visit during the summer of last year. The little girl's hair was cut shorter and the father believes the mother was trying to disguise the girl's identity. The mother is in German custody and awaits extradition back to the United States where she faces a felony charge of violating a child custody order.
After the father got a call informing him of the secure whereabouts of his daughter he immediately flew to Germany. He said the experience was like a rebirth and he said he hugged his daughter for a very long time.
