Texas dad who owes hundreds of thousands in child support arrested

On Behalf of | Feb 2, 2011 | Firm News

On January 6, the most wanted child support evader in Texas was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City. Before the arrest, the elusive man and father attempted to enter the country of Oman, but the man was deported back to the United States because of an invalid passport. The man has two children and owes $420,000 in back child support. Officials in Texas have been on the hunt for the fugitive dad for 13 years.

Law enforcement officials have tried to track the man the world over, and agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigations identified the man in Jordan. When the man was deported from Oman, he was arrested at JFK as he left the plane. The father is expected to be returned to Texas where he will eventually be given a court date. The father of two has failed to make any child support payments since 1991 when his first child support obligation was determined. He tops the list of fathers in Texas who owe the most in back child support payments.

The man is a chiropractor and operated a chiropractic clinic at the time of his divorce in 1991. At that time he was ordered to pay $3,500 in monthly child support. Six years later the father failed to show up at a court hearing that was set to discuss the $150,000 in back child support that he owed. Later, a judge reduced the monthly child support payment to $1,500 and ordered the father to make a one-time payment of $1,000. The father failed to make any of the payments. Since that time the whereabouts of the father became unknown.

In 1998 a warrant was issued for the father’s arrest due to criminal nonsupport. The father had been on the run for more than 10 years and spent much of his time in countries with warm climates. The man is known to have spent some of his time training horses in Central America instead of paying his child support.
