Two days ago Charlie Sheen and his former wife Brooke Mueller were in court for a child custody hearing. Charlie Sheen walked into court believing he had a chance to obtain full custody of his twin sons, Bob and Max, but as he exited the courthouse it was clear the custody of the boys had not changed. As a result Brooke Mueller remains the twin boys’ primary custodian.
Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller finalized their divorce months before the most recent hearing but the order will not be official until May 2. The former couple had reached an agreement on child custody last month but the battle was reignited as news spread that Mueller reported for rehab. She also recently failed to participate for a drug test that was required for the child custody agreement with Charlie Sheen.
Before the hearing on Tuesday, Charlie Sheen wanted to get custody of his twin boys and aimed to stop child support payments to Mueller. Mueller currently receives $55,000 per month in child support. Both parents have a history of drug abuse.
The news of Mueller’s rehab choice was not the first time the court was made aware of her abuse issues. In documents filed for a hearing in March, Mueller said she was fighting to stay sober while she attended a day rehabilitation program. Sheen has had his own bouts with drug abuse and has displayed violent behavior towards Mueller in the past.
Sheen says he is a fine dad and the events that have unfolded over the last few months will not affect their opinion on him. He told 20/20, “They’ll wake up one day and realize how cool Dad is.” The next child custody hearing is scheduled for June 9.
