The ongoing property division battle between Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt continues. Attorneys for Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt met yesterday for a case management meeting that likely discussed the next move in the property division case. Frank and Jamie had reached a potential settlement in May regarding the ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the settlement failed to conclude the issue.
Yesterday’s court date was originally scheduled to be a one-day trial to determine the ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Frank McCourt maintains he is the sole owner of the Major League Baseball team, and Jamie McCourt claims she is part owner. A lot of events have unfolded since the scheduling of the court date.
In December a judge ruled the postnuptial marital agreement between Frank and Jamie McCourt was invalid. The postnuptial agreement stated Frank was the sole owner of the team. After the ruling, Jamie made moves to claim half ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In May, the former couple reached a property division settlement regarding the ownership of the Dodgers.
The settlement involved a television rights deal between the team and Fox and was subject to the approval of Major League Baseball. The Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Bud Selig, declined approval of the deal explaining money from the deal would be used for Frank McCourt’s personal needs and would not be in the best interests of baseball.
Selig’s disapproval of the deal negated the property division settlement. The meeting yesterday likely set future dates to continue the property division issue.
