As Dallas residents know, a marriage can be hard to maintain. No one ever hopes they will get a divorce, and couples often search for the secrets to maintaining a happy, healthy marriage. One study now suggests that a couple’s relationship with their in-laws may be a factor in the success of their marriage.

A 26-year long study of close to 400 couples suggests that women are 20 percent more likely to divorce if they have close relationships with their in-laws. However, men are 20 percent less likely to divorce if they have close relationships with their in-laws.

The psychologist and research professor who led the study believes this phenomenon may be the result of women viewing a close relationship with their in-laws as them interfering in their lives. However, men are more focused are providing for their families, and thus, are less affected by the actions taken by their in-laws.

Although a couple’s respective relationship with their in-laws may be one factor in how successful their marriage is, there are many other things that can either make or break a relationship.

Unfortunately, not all marriages last. Couples may try to work out their differences, but in the end, going forward with a divorce may be the best option.

People do not have to go through a divorce alone. Often, working with an experienced family law attorney can prove to be beneficial. Going through a divorce can be challenging. However, an attorney can help people sort through difficult matters.
