When two people announce that they are getting divorced, the decision may not come as surprise to others. Friends, family members and even strangers may feel inclined to say something like “I knew it wouldn’t last,” or “It’s about time.” But comments like these can be hurtful to a Texas couple who is already dealing with a difficult and emotional situation.
While others may claim that a couple’s divorce is inevitable, a couple who is married generally tries to do whatever they can to avoid ending it. However, the reality is that some relationships simply do not work out and when the time comes to consider a divorce, two people should be able to focus on what is best for them, not on the opinions of others.
Unfortunately, there are many people who struggle with this, especially when they are celebrities or in a high-profile marriage, like Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom. Texas residents may have read that Kardashian recently filed for divorce.
Kardashian and Odom married just a month after meeting. People said it would never last and that the celebrity couple was not right for each other. But for years, they worked at building a successful marriage.
But just like any other couple, the pair went through some very difficult and challenging times during their marriage. Substance abuse, arrests, infidelity and other allegations have been tossed around wildly in recent months. Some of the claims have had merit while others were baseless. Eventually, the real issues they were struggling with got to be too much to handle and Kardashian filed for divorce.
Any breakup can be devastating and the dissolution of a marriage is not something that should be taken lightly. Even if others expect a couple to divorce, the truth is that only the two people involved in the relationship know what is right for them. If this includes a divorce, it is important that each spouse tries to stay focused on what is in his or her best interests. A relationship may be public, but at the end of the day, it is only the people in that relationship who have something to gain or lose.
